Muzychuk Goes Undefeated to Take Women’s Crown

In the concurrently held Women’s Norway Chess, Anna Muzychuk stood head and shouldered above the field. She finished undefeated in classical play and claimed an outright win with 16.5 points, drawing both her final classical and Armageddon rounds against R. Vaishali on the last day.

Anna had seized the lead after a decisive round nine classical victory over former champion Ju Wenjun, then held steady under pressure.

Second place went to Lei Tingjie (16.0) after she secured a timely Armageddon win against Sara Khadem, moving past Humpy Koneru in the standings.

Humpy took third with 15.0, a podium finish though marred by a blundered classical win against Ju Wenjun in round nine.

Muzychuk’s triumph is also a win for equal prize money—she earned the same 700 000 NOK as Carlsen, spotlighting Norway Chess' progressive stance on parity in chess
